Collaborative Writing: I can write with you, for you, or as you. As an example, I wrote The Tarot of Transformation with Willow Arlenea, the artist. I took her lead, listening carefully to her inspiration and intention, and I also contributed ideas of my own; both of our names are on the project. Writing for or as someone is often known as ghostwriting and although the “with” phrase (e.g. Francis Woods with Jasmin Lee Cori) is often on the final product, it doesn’t need to be. There are many options for collaborative writing, whether a book, article, or other document. In all of these arrangements, I use my skill as a writer to create the product that best communicates your message.

Manuscript Evaluation: This entails looking at a manuscript and critiquing it, providing suggestions regarding content, organization, tone, writing style, and editorial issues. I do this only for nonfiction books in non-technical fields. Areas of special expertise include psychology and spirituality.

Book Proposals for Nonfiction Books: Publishers don’t have time to read manuscripts; they want an author to have researched the market and competition for a book and to convince them that both book and author are a good investment. This is accomplished through a book proposal, which is now the primary means of getting a contract. It is therefore critical that the proposal be as polished and as powerful as possible. I can guide you through this process, crafting sections for you or editing work you provide. I work only with nonfiction book proposals in non-technical fields.

Developmental Editing & Coaching: This is working with an author throughout the process of creating a finished product, providing emotional support as well as guiding the work itself.

Substantive Editing: Here you do the writing, but I edit not just for grammar, punctuation, and so forth, but also for organization, content, and style. I might make recommendations about combining sections, eliminating sections, adding more material and other suggestions related to the overall functioning of the piece. In several manuscripts, I have rearranged chapters, broken up long passages, and provided subheadings throughout. If desired, I can also rework (rewrite) sentences and sections that are awkward.

Copyediting: Copyediting is editing a written work for grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, and minor elements of style.

Indexing: Create back-of-the-book indexes for psychology, self-help, spirituality titles.

Business & Professional Needs: My clean, clear prose style works well for newsletters, reports, cover letters and resumes, and other business and professional communications. I am a former instructor of business writing.

Promotional Materials: I can work with you on creating text for brochures and websites. Although not a graphic designer, I can also work with simple formatting elements to create low-cost promotional items.

Educational Materials: (Course materials or training manuals.) I have written entire courses for the web and distance education and have ten years experience as a post-secondary educator.

Editing of Theses, Dissertations, and other Academic Papers: I have the most experience in the field of psychology, but will consider any non-technical field.
