My life is a journey I did not plan. A voyage through hell states to come to know “heaven.” (Heaven relates to both a plane of existence and a state of consciousness related to our deepest Essence.)
I became a therapist at the tender age of 24 and didn’t last long, as might be expected for someone who had yet to do her own healing work. When I reached 40, I uncovered childhood trauma, which began my journey of descent.
I was a student of The Diamond Approach at that time, a spiritual school conversant with the intertwining of psychological and spiritual work. I was discovering my deeper essence at the same time I was dropping into dark places I hadn’t known were there; so during that time heaven and hell were unfolding simultaneously.
This continued, with yet deeper dips into both. I lost my voice, lost my job, suffered significant health challenges and financial struggle.
Yet in the midst of being flattened, sick in bed, I midwifed a book of mystical poetry in a matter of months. That was heaven streaming through.
There is always a journey of descent in deep transformative work, and mine took place over two decades. There were times I thought surely I had emptied my bag of repressed traumas, only to find more.
I learned that the only way beyond the horrors is to go through them. We go into hell states to retrieve important parts of our soul and life story.
These books were healing not only for me but for tens of thousands who have read them.
The books created a new calling, and I returned to work as a psychotherapist to help others heal. I find this work immensely meaningful — and yet more is possible than simply healing the broken places.
There is also stepping firmly into our light. There are always more dimensions of ourselves to step into and integrate, dimensions that have such a wider perspective and free so much love that hell is finally transformed. If we happen to dip back into a dark place, we recognize it is but a pocket of memory–not who we are or where we live.
This is the journey. What a wonderful journey to be on!
